Bio

Tontaneshia L. Jones was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She is a product of Chicago Public Schools (PROUD Orange and Navy blue Dolphin for LIFE).  Ms. Jones is from a family of educators. Her mother taught in Chicago Public Schools for 34 years. Ms. T.Jones has aunts who have retired from their local school systems as high school teachers and principals. Becoming an educator was practically inevitable because she was the only kid sitting in a Governors State University classroom(age  6 or 7) while her mom was fulfilling her graduate degree coursework, or at the study group sessions at the homes of cohort members. She was the only child in a school building way past dinner time as her mom wrote lesson plans and filled the chalk boards with the next days assignments.   She heeded the call of following in her mother's footsteps and attended Bethune- Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida (Now Bethune-Cookman University) where she received her bachelors degree in education as well as Chicago State University where she received her graduate degrees in Reading and Administrative Leadership.Ms. T. Jones has worked for Chicago Public Schools for twenty- five years and for the entire twenty five years she has served at Ella Flagg Young.Tontaneshia L. Jones is the oldest of three girls who are also educators. She is the mother of one, Nikolayshia who is the joy of her life. While her dad was not an educator, he did make sure she arrived to Young school daily safely by driving her to and from school until his health failed and he passed on. Tontaneshia Jones is a silver star member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (Theta Omega), and she has served in her church's music ministry for over thirty years. Why does she still do the job? Jermaine Anderson, Narwetta Thornton, Tajuan Riley, Tatyana Lampkin, Regina Odeneal -Griffee, Diamond Howard, Ashley Booker, Anjelica Moore, Stephanie Lockhart, Jaidalyn Rand, and Leon Miller are just a few reasons.
